Joomla Images

Congratulations!  Your website development experience is about to improve tenfold as a result of you joining the San Diego Joomla Community.  Now you simply have to create or improve that website that you have always wanted and needed to improve your, your company’s, or your organization’s virtual image.  Let us take a look at one of the first steps you might encounter during your website journey- adding an image to your article.

Signing In

The first step, whenever you wish to work on your Joomla account is to sign in.  To locate the sign in page, you must know your website domain.  In other words, you would type in the following, replacing “yoursite” with the appropriate website name: http://www.yoursite.com/administrator.  Here you will be asked to fill in your account ID and password, which you decided on when registering for an account.

Finding or Creating the Article

Once you are signed into your account, you can locate or create the article that requires a photo.  If the article already exists, then simply select “article manager” and then the article in question.  If you wish to write a new piece, then select “add article.”   Once the written portion of the article is finished, you can add the photo.

Placement Matters

The next step is to decide where in the article you want the image to appear.  Typically people place these near the top of the article, but if the image pertains to something lower in the text, then you may wish to place it there instead.  Once you have chosen the appropriate place, select the “image” button.  If the image is already used elsewhere on the site, then you can simply pull it from the existing San Diego Joomla or personal library of images.  If you wish to upload a new one, then select “browse” and locate the file on your computer.

Ironing Out the Details

After the appropriate image is selected, you will need to give it a name.  Remember that repetition of material is a good way to have your website seen more often.  So, try to give the image a name that is appropriate to the overall topic of your website, but that also addresses the image itself.  You can also add a caption and determine where the picture will be placed- left aligned, right aligned, or centered on the page.

HTML?

The image is now in place.  However, if it was not sized appropriately before uploading, you may need to resize it now.  If you click on the “html” tab, you can view the html code of the page.  Here you will see the code for the image that you inserted, along with its current measurements.  By changing these, you can change the size of the image as it is seen by viewers.  However, be careful to retain the same proportion between those two numbers, so the image does not become skewed.  You can also do this more easily before you upload the image, using a photo editing software.
